The Brittany was named for a French Province
From 1934-1982, it was registered by AKC as Spaniel, Brittany.
September 1,1982 it's official name was changed to Brittany in the U.S.
In Canada, it is still registered by CKC as Spaniel, Brittany.

 Right Breed for You?
The Brittany is strong, quick and agile, requiring exercise and activity to occupy his body and mind. He is a happy and alert dog who possesses willing attitude. The Brittany is a natural pointer and excellent retriever who makes a great hunting companion. Brittanys usually have exceptionally friendly temperments, they love people and get along well with other dogs. Regular brushing is important, but their shorter coats need minimal maintenance.
